Molly’s Whelping Kit
is a great addition to the breeder’s tools. Most of the items are reusable and
will aid the breeder through the birth of many litters and hopefully save
puppies that might otherwise not have lived. Included in the kit are three
essential syringes to aid the new born puppy in trouble, along with 2 hemostats
and 1 blunt scissor to ensure the safe detachment of the umbilical cord at
birth.
DeLee Mucus Trap
A
DeLee mucus trap is used to remove mucus from the mouth and airway of newborn
puppies and kittens. The small 10 French tube passes easily into the back of
the mouth and above the trachea removing mucus that the bulb syringe cannot
reach. The tube may also be passed all the way into the stomach, and then mucus
can be removed from the stomach. An empty stomach helps increase the space for
the lungs to expand, as well as colostrums absorption. This is especially
beneficial for C-Section deliveries, as the mucus is not expressed from the
digestive and respiratory tract as with a vaginal delivery. Mucus traps can be
disinfected, but cannot be boiled or autoclaved.
Instructions for use of DeLee Mucus Trap:
Measure the smooth tube (not the on with the mouthpiece) as you would a feeding
tube. (mouth to stomach) Place tube wit white plastic mouthpiece in your
mouth. Grasp pup firmly, open mouth and thread second tube down the
mouth-throat and to the stomach. You will know when you are in the stomach
because you will meet resistance, and you should be close to your pre-measured
mark. After you place the tube all the way down, begin sucking on the tube (one
with the mouthpiece) with about as much pressure as you would use with a straw
in a soft drink. Yellow mucus/amniotic fluid will come up the tube from the
stomach and be caught in the canister between the 2 tubes. Continue sucking as
you slowly remove the tube from the puppy’s stomach. This clears the lower
airway and back of the throat. To empty/clean the canister, remove the top and
rinse with water/mild detergent. Hang to dry.
Bulb Syringe
Bulb Syringe is good for shallow removal of mucus from the puppy’s mouth and
throat.
Feeding Syringes -- Infant Feeding Tube, Drip Syringe, Dam 60 cc Feeding Syringe
Included are a variety
of feeding syringes. 12cc syringe with a curved end. Use to drip formula into
newborns mouth so they can lick/suck it off the end of the syringe.
Perfect for removing mucus from the
puppy's mouth. Soft, pointed, rubber tip! Soft, medical grade rubber. 60cc
syringe is helpful to force fluids on bitches during labor that will not drink
on their own. Fluids may be slowly fed through the syringe into the cheek or
mouth, thus decreasing the chance for dehydration in the Mum.
Hemostats & Scissors
Use these to clamp umbilical cords. Forget the dental floss!
Clamp, cut puppy's cord on placenta side, wait 2 minutes, take the hemostat off.
All done!
Molly’s Post-Whelping Formula
Included is a sample package of Post-Whelping formula. This is terrific for
Dam’s who have had a C-Section or picked up a virus from a puppy during whelp
and where the Dam just doesn’t want to eat. Feeding puppies is so important
after birthing and the Dam will normally have enough milk to get the puppies
through the first day or so, but then the puppies who don’t get enough to eat
will not gain weight and you stand a chance of loosing puppies if the Dam
doesn’t start eating. Molly’s Post-Whelp formula has ingredients to give the
Dam immediate energy and stimulate her appetite, as well as providing some
nutrition. However, the most important ingredients in the formula are the herbs
that have been carefully selected to target the needs of Dam’s Post-Whelp.
Dr Kruger Pregnancy Formula
Formulated specifically
for pregnant bitches, it provides important pro-biotics, trace minerals, and 4
digestive enzymes plus added Vitamin B in the form of desiccated liver (460mg
per serving) sourced from Argentina.
Dr Kruger Healthy Joint Formula
This may seem like an unlikely addition to a whelping kit, but the formula was
selected because of the formula specific ingredients that target pain and
inflammation associated with joint issues. Those who have knowledge of herbs
will be familiar with the benefits of the specific herbs used in the formula.
This formula too provides important pro-biotics, trace minerals and 5 digestive
enzymes that is especially good after giving birth as commercial dog foods can
often be hard to digest and the bitches innards may be a bit tender from
delivery.
